FreeWritingMachines
A beautiful and utilitarian collection of portable typewriters, available for workshops, installations, and individual use.

Our mission
To utilize typewriters for creative writing and art making, in order to feed the soul while offering a counter activity to screen-time / media consumption, which is an epidemic facing children and adults across the world.
To write with these WritingMachines, you must slow down, be present, focus, and create without any screen/software distractions or suggestions. They present an effective and intriguing intervention into the digital hyper-convenient, hyper-consuming age.
Our vision
People come together to spend time writing freely.
Typewriters come with three kinds of paper: 1) empty sheets, total freedom, 2) simple prompts to get you writing, 3) abstract ink-based artworks you can type on top of. There is also a housing that goes on top of one typewriter, which allows you to hide the previous lines of texts, while showing just the last line written: ideal for emergent, collaborative poetry making.
